New Year's Resolutions...

Gosh, these are always tough... mostly because I have the same ones every year.  Is that good or bad, I wonder?  Does it mean I failed last year or am staying the course?  Hmm... while I mull that over, I thought it may make me more accountable if I wrote my resolutions out and shared them.

1.  Be kinder.  To everyone.  Be more gentle with what I say and how I say it.  "Niceness and kindness" I say to the boys at least five times a day.  That goes for Mommy too.

2.  Eat (even) healthier.  I try my best to feed my family healthy foods but there's always room for improvement.  I want the boys to eat more whole foods, less processed ones.  (When will my children grow tired of chicken nuggets, I wonder??)  Less snacks, more vegetables.  Less boxed food, more organic, fresh food.  As Lauren has said and I fully agree with, "If you're not willing to spend money on healthy food, does it matter what else you spend money on?"

3.  No alcohol Monday- Wednesday.  This is always a toughie ;) so we've decided to ease our way into it by allowing a glass of wine (or beer) Thursday- Sunday.  Starting next week.  Ha ha ha.  Seriously... the Shaws and New Years Eve mid-week wrecked any chance of that starting this week but next week?  We're going strong!  NO WINE Monday through Wednesday!  Even if the children are incorrigible, I've run 5 miles, eaten a bag of spinach, and have justified that "Doctors say one glass a day is healthy."  But you see?!   That is how I usually justify having a glass nightly.  Okay, or two.  ;)

4.  Continue to exercise.  Consider signing up for a race this spring.

5.  Do one random act of kindness, as a family, every month.  We were really good in November and December about helping families in need.  I'd love for that to continue throughout the year.

So, there are my top 5.  What are yours?

  1. I have a lot.. I've been working on this for a while :)

1- Start reading through the "Top 100 Novels of All Time" (means getting into bed earlier each night to read)
2- Eat more foods that only have one ingredient (or at least ingredients that can be identified in the mix).
3- Act the way I want to feel (and try to be more optimistic)
4- Make something by hand every day
5- Dress happy (wear all those goodies I save, for what?)
6- Do something every day that's new or a little scary
7- Contact good friends more often
8- Be a good citizen (pick up trash and throw it away, talk to the elderly etc.)
9- If it can be done in under a minute, just do it it feels better
10- Do nice surprises for Tocco and go with him when he goes somewhere because it's usually fun and different for me
11- Call Mom (especially) and Beth more often (trying to remember about the time zone)

Good luck to us both! I think you already do all of yours, so I can see you acing yours asap! XO Love you.

  2. I could also try to stop dropping things, and I like the no booze M-W idea. That's moderate enough. Ok, and Tocco shared his list with us:

    1- more kitesurfing
    2- sailing license
    3- change work direction
    4- conceiving #3 in family (!)
    5- better work/life balance
6- better use of free time
7- create more free time ( I see a theme...)
8- more travel! - hawaii, berlin, g-burg, bremen, baja california
9- change monthly costs- either cheaper apt or house
    10- get savings in order

    I love #4. :)

About Me

My photo
I am a stay-at-home mom to 3 energetic, funny, sweet, and crazy boys. I married my best friend, Chris, and love our life together. The Army is sending him overseas soon so I thought this blog would be a great way for him (and the grandparents!) to keep up with our hectic life. Unfortunately the Army keeps us too far from family and most of our friends so hopefully this will help us stay connected.
