Yesterday morning we participated in The Reindeer Run in Aberdeen, NC. It was about an hour away in a quaint little town. The race continues to draw bigger crowds every year (with about 2500 total participants this year).
I ran the 12k and James participated in the Egg Nog Jog (1/2 mile).
The only problem was that I didn't re-check the weather and dressed everyone in shorts. For a 45 degree, rainy, windy day. To say we were cold is a huge understatement. WE WERE FREEEEZING. Fortunately the little coffee shop in town was open so while I was running, Chris and the boys sipped hot cocoa and played with friends...
Nothing feels better than seeing that FINISH line… and receiving a cute reindeer medal!
The run was hard, for several reasons….
1) It was almost all uphill. Who creates a "fun run" that's mostly uphill?
2) I absolutely hated the new running jacket I was wearing. It had a hood that choked me the entire time.
3) I also hated the running belt of Chris's I wore. It never sat quite right so I pulled and tugged it into place the entire time.
4) I also hated the iPod I borrowed from Chris since I couldn't get it to PLAY!
5) I realized at mile 4 that a 12k is 7.5 miles, not 6.5 miles (as I'd somehow gotten stuck in my head).
6) It rained off and on the entire 7.5 miles. Did I mention I was in shorts? (Check out what everyone behind me is wearing… and that dude blowing hot air into his hands! ha ha. Clearly I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree!!)
7) It was very windy.
8) My girlfriend, who signed up to run with me, bailed two days before the race. Booo!
The good….
1) I finished! And ran pretty good for the first 6 miles. I placed 25th for my age group (30-39 year olds).
2) I physically felt great the entire run. Nothing on me hurt, despite the hills.
3) While Henry was too cold to run when his "heat" started, James DID run in his. He was in 1st place for much of the run but fell and ended up in 5th. Still quite an accomplishment! Chris and I are SO very proud of him!!
It literally took the entire afternoon to thaw out! I'm definitely glad we did it though and will probably sign up again next year. Maybe for the easier 5k though! :)

About Me
- Beth
- I am a stay-at-home mom to 3 energetic, funny, sweet, and crazy boys. I married my best friend, Chris, and love our life together. The Army is sending him overseas soon so I thought this blog would be a great way for him (and the grandparents!) to keep up with our hectic life. Unfortunately the Army keeps us too far from family and most of our friends so hopefully this will help us stay connected.
Beth...You are amazing! I think I might have quite about mile two. I HATE being cold. I HATE being choked even worse. I am so proud of you! You are such a great role model for your boys.
